# California SB 843 (20152016) — Public safety.

(1) Existing law, the Trial Jury Selection and Management Act, generally governs the selection of juries in criminal and civil cases. Under existing law, a criminal defendant is generally entitled to exercise 10 peremptory challenges during the jury selection process. When 2 or more defendants are jointly tried, existing law requires these challenges to be exercised jointly, but grants each defendant an additional 5 challenges to be exercised separately.
