# Illinois HB 5524 (95th) — CRIM &CORR-FIREARM PURCHASE
Amends the Criminal Code of 1961. Provides that the penalty for the offense of unlawful purchase of a firearm is a Class 2 felony (rather than a Class 4 felony) for the purchase or attempted purchase of one firearm, a Class 1 felony (rather than a Class 3 felony) for the purchase or attempted purchase of 2 to 5 firearms at the same time or within a one year period, and a Class X felony with a term of imprisonment of not less than 9 years and not more than 40 years for the purchase or attempted purchase of 6 or more firearms at the same time or within a 2 year period.
